"Let's name him Thomas."

For those of you that know me, you know, I'm kind of a dog lover. I have been known to make people pick up stray dogs off the side of the road and I even made a date do this once, case in point...I am just sensitive when it comes to dogs.

That being said, I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I find it fun to go to the Humane Society on Saturdays or Sundays and play with the dogs.   This past Sunday Kyle, Hudson and I did just that. I was in no way expecting that any of us would fall in love with a dog...but we did.

We ended up spending our entire time at the shelter playing with a 2-3 year old pointer/american english coonhound, named Grant.  Grant had the sweetest demeanor. He was completely taken with Hudson and Hudson was completely taken with him.

Before we left Hudson looked at me and said, "Let's name him Thomas."
Several days went by and all I was hearing from both Kyle and Hudson were questions about when we were going to bring Thomas home and make him a part of the family.  On January 29th, we brought him home and I'm so glad we did.  He and Hudson have become best friends and Thomas is the most appreciative rescue dog I've ever been around.

What a Saturday

On a Friday afternoon in mid-January, my mom called with a fun proposition.  She and my dad had decided to take a Saturday trip down to Dallas to go to Cabela's and do some shopping.  Thinking that Hudson would really enjoy seeing all of the animals there, they invited us to go. Unfortunately, Kyle wasn't able to come, but I cancelled my weekend plans and Hudson and I headed south!

It was such a fun day.  We went to the Rainforest Cafe for lunch and Hudson was completely taken by all of the tropical fish and big animals.  The elephants were definitely his favorite and he was a little frightened by the tigers, but he left with a frog hat, a balloon animal dinosaur and a big smile on his face.

We continued the day at Cabela's.  It was mine and Hudson's first Cabela's experience and I have to say it's 10x better than Bass Pro.  We spent an hour and a half looking at all of the taxidermied animals and could've spent even longer there.  From moose to zebra, from polar beer to grizzly bear...they have it ALL! Hudson left Cabela's with a "pop" gun, new Cabela's baseball cap and wonderful memories.

Carolina on My Mind

This Christmas we decided to drift from the norm and take a Christmas vacation. The thought of missing My nephew Wake's second Christmas was sad for our family and my parents, so we decided to spend the week in South Carolina. It was a great week filled with fun adventures. Kyle got to see (and dive into...brrrr) the ocean for the first time, Hudson got to see dolphins and we all enjoyed the sunshine and family time. The road trip was over 17 hrs but split between two days it was a great way to travel and see the country. Hudson, much to our surprise, did very well in the car.
